Creativity and Mental Health: A Personal Note for October
Good Tuesday everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share something a bit more personal with you. As you may know, October is Halloween season—my favorite holiday—but it’s also ADHD Awareness Month. As someone who has ADHD, I thought I’d share a bit about my experience. I was diagnosed when I was younger, and while I received treatment early on, my parents decided to stop it due to the side effects of the medication I was on. For a long time, my ADHD went untreated. Only recently have I begun treatment again, and I now take medication to help me manage my daily tasks without constantly adding things to a to-do list and never finishing them.
Why am I sharing this? Well, normally October is when I create a horror-themed game in celebration of Halloween. Unfortunately, my last two Halloween games were flagged by Patreon, and I now have two strikes on my account. So, I'm on thin ice with them and have made the tough decision not to make a Halloween game this year. But I still want to make something special.
Since October is also ADHD Awareness Month, I’ve decided to work on something different to mark the occasion. I've been working on Mother's Devotion for over two years without any breaks, and that kind of grind can wear anyone down. I've seen many other great developers burn out, and I don't want that to happen to me. So, I’ll be using this time to focus on a different project—something fresh to help keep my creativity flowing and prevent burnout.
I hope you understand and can support me in this decision. I’ll reveal more about this mystery project next Monday, so stay tuned. In the meantime, remember to take care of yourself. Therapy can be a helpful path, and medication is not about "drugging yourself"—it’s about addressing an imbalance in your brain. If you're struggling or don't know where to start in taking care of yourself, my inbox is always open for a chat. We're a community, and you are just as much a part of this Fluffy Family as anyone else.
With love,
Your friend, Fluffy
