Story and Writing: 

The story of Heavy Hearts is set in a world where humans are on the brink of extinction. The few who remain live in isolation or are captured and enslaved for labor, pleasure, or worse. With her friend Rhed, they embark on a mission to save humanity, even if that means Luccia must repopulate the species herself. The writing in Heavy Hearts goes beyond typical adult games. It’s immersive and thoughtful, with deeper conversations between Luccia and her companions that range from tactical discussions to romantic and erotic encounters. The corruption aspect of the story does feel a bit rushed, but the overall narrative is engaging and sets a solid foundation for a unique, dystopian fantasy.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Heavy Hearts combines traditional RPG mechanics with lewd elements, but it’s not without its frustrations. The core gameplay includes exploration, looting, and crafting, as you gather materials to trade and create new items. These tasks are intertwined with unlocking adult scenes, making the erotic content feel more naturally integrated into the gameplay.

One major component is stealth, where you must sneak past sentient races that are eager to capture rare humans like Luccia. Unfortunately, these stealth sections can be punishing, leading to instant game-overs if you're caught, and are made more frustrating by the limited save points.

Combat is handled through an Active Time Battle (ATB) system. Normal attacks fill the NRG gauge, which grants Combat Orbs that can be used to unleash abilities or charge powerful elemental magic attacks. While the ATB system adds some strategic depth, the combat itself feels repetitive and can become a chore as the game progresses. The lack of detailed guidance on where to find important items also detracts from the experience, and a proper tutorial system could greatly improve the game.

The combination of pixel art and 2DCG is beautifully executed, with the pixel art scenes adding an old-school RPG charm, while the fully drawn 2D scenes are stunningly detailed. The animations are fluid and well-executed, although the number of animated scenes is limited, leaving players wanting more.
